Examination Procedure
The Open University of Sri Lanka is a national university that offers programs of education leading to Certificate, Diploma, Degrees, and Postgraduate degrees up to Ph.D. level within the Open and Distance Mode of Learning. It is Island widely (branches located in every province of Sri Lanka) spread for the ease of satisfying students’ requirements. The Department of Legal Studies attached to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Open University conducts LLB an LLM degree programmes. The Especially of this program is that it enables the opportunity to have a degree rather than a professional qualification. Open University offers degrees of law after completing the 4-year study period. Students have to pass the final year examination of the Law College, and after completing the six-month apprenticeship, students can be sworn in as a lawyer in the Supreme Court. Unlike the Law College entrance examination,
- The LL. B examination ask the applicants just to pass the A/L examination with three simple passes (3s).
- There are more than 700 applicants who successfully pass the LL. B examination are selected per intake.
- LMC recommend this for the students who are working or students who want to do this part-time(Weekend lectures only)
The LLB Entrance Exam takes place over one day and consists of four papers:
Intelligence Quotient (IQ): (1 hour, 100 marks) Tests logical reasoning, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
40 MCQ Questions
Comprehension: Choose either
Sinhala Comprehension: ((1 hour, 100 marks):Tests reading comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking in Sinhala. or
Tamil Comprehension: Tests reading comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking in Tamil.
English Language: (1 hour, 100 marks) Tests grammar, vocabulary, writing skills, and comprehension in English.
General Knowledge: (1 hour, 100 marks) Tests awareness of current affairs, Sri Lankan history, geography,civics, and general science.
40 MCQ and Structured Questions
Passing Requirements:
To pass the exam, you must score at least 25% in both English and Sinhala/Tamil Comprehension. You must also score at least 10% in both General Knowledge and General Intelligence
Application Timeline: Keep an eye on the official Open University website for application deadlines, typically announced in August/September.
Application Method: Online, walking and via post
Application Fee: Be prepared to pay a non-refundable application fee of LKR 5,000.(as per 2023)
2024 Exam Date – Normally in December in every year.
